35th Annual Easter Baseball tournament
April 11,13,14 and 15 2009
A registered CIF tournament sponsored by the Anaheim Lions Club with the the Anaheim Union High School District ( JF Kennedy HS as Host) and the Community Services Department of the city of Anaheim.
THE PURPOSE
The purpose of this Tournament is to provide an opportunity for participating High Schools to meet and compete for a coveted perpetual trophy, and to raise funds to assist the visually and hearing impaired as well as other worthwhile non-profit organizations in the community.
THE HISTORY
Started in 1975 with just eight teams in an elimination tournament the event has grown each year. This year 46 teams will be competing. Each team is guaranteed five games each over four days of play. The games will be played at 15 different venues.
All games played during the first four days will match schools that do not play each other during their regular playing season. The final game will be played by teams with the best overall record of play during the tournament.
THE PRIZES
Trophies are awarded to the 1
st and 2nd place teams. A MVP trophy is awarded to the most valuable player of the tournament. The winning team will also receive the coveted Perpetual Trophy to display at their school for the next year. The 1st place teammembers will each receive a “Winners” tee shirt, the 2
nd Place team members willeach receive a “Runner Up” tee shirt. The All Tournament selected players will receive
All Tournament Team´ tee shirts.
THE CHARITIES
Proceeds from this Tournament will benefit the following organizations: Blind Children’s Learning Center, Braille Institute, City of Hope, Lions Sight & Hearing Mobile Testing, So. Calif. Lions Eye Institute, Foundation for the Junior Blind, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Project Look, CHOC Leukemia Walk-a-Thon, Guide Dogs of the Desert, Lions Canine Companions, PADRE Foundation, Wilderness Camp for the Deaf, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, Boys & Girls Club of Anaheim, Anaheim YMCA, Anaheim Youth of the Year.
In addition, proceeds will benefit the on-going eye care program of the Anaheim Lions Club in assisting needy local elementary school children with eye exams and glasses.
