Student Speaker's Contest
The club level contest, Feb 7, 2008 was followed by the Zone and the region contest, so far we had a tremendous event, the students, our future, are fantastic. Coming up with ideas and presentation to a subject that is tormenting the whole nation: "Immigration, my Solution".
I heard more comments about this subjects this year then anything else, one of the judges suggested that the presentation were so good , that we aught to send these kids to Washington if we really want to help solving this dilemma.
Thanks to the great effort by our Anaheim lions on all the levels so far, our club level Chair Lion Chaz Hendricks, zone chair Lion Tom Brown and Region Chair Lion Rod Wallace. I can say our club put so much into this event that we should be recognized as the leading club in this area.
The students themselves, spending hours researching the issues, rehearsing with their coaches and parents and coming up with amazing stories and incredible presentations that I felt privileged listening to them and in the same time wondering about the ones who missed this great opportunity. I would encourage anyone, lions or not reading this to consider going to the next event.
As you may not know that the winner of this level will compete in the District contest and go later to compete against yet more enthusiastic and ideas spitting machines just to keep you awed. Amazingly the overall winner will get a Scholarship of up to $21,000.00. The total monies donated to the all the winners will exceed $ 100,000.00.
Call me at 714-968-0308 if you are interested, I will be posting the date and the place of the upcoming events soon

Welcome New Members
We must be doing something right when members from other club decide to join our club, the camaraderie and the enthusiasm this small group generates is catching up.
I want first to welcome not only a great lion but a Previous governor: Lion PDG Jack Mauller, he has been a lion for 18 years ( Can't recall how long, sorry Jack ), Jack is in Real estate, he just left Prudential California realty and open his own brokerage firm: Mauller and Associates. Inc., Commercial-Industrial-Investment Real . He can be reached in his office at 714-523-2600. or at www.jackmauller.com.
Our second, a new previous member is lion Jack Van Marter, who moved back to Anaheim from Corona and decided that he never really left us, So, Jack on behalf of all our members, welcome again. For many years ( again I can't remember how long) jack was the editor of our newsletter, way before e-mail, he won the district best newsletter many times with his humor and professional finesse. Jack is actually a previous president of this club and won many awards in flipping Pancakes. Way to go Jack we love you and happy to see you again.
We already added another member this year, if you never met her, Lion blanch Cavaness, she was elected to our club and was inducted several months ago ( Nov 2007), She is a friend of Lion Ray Normandin who introduced her to our club, Blanch you brighten our meetings, and we are happy you decided to join us.
Baseball tournament
We just finished a very successful baseball tournament. We had a whopping 46 high school participating. As soon as I get the numbers from Our baseball chairman, I will post them on this page. Just to let you know it was well attended, the club put a lot of hours but it was worth it. This is how we can raise money to fund our charities in Anaheim and to give to other worthy organizations. Mater Dei ( Santa Ana) defeated Valencia (Placentia) 8 - 5. and won the trophy. Mater Dei will display the trophy at the school and keep it till next years' Tournament.
We want to thank all the participant for their effort the players and the coaches sportsmanship, the empires did a fantastic job.
We want to thank the volunteers, our Lions members who left their jobs and families to make this event such a success, for the time they spent in preparing the event, getting the schools together, working with empires and the school, putting the program together . These lions, for their dedication and relentless endeavor whether working the shifts at the gates, selling the food, or the raffles at the stadiums, This could not have been done without those members who unfortunately seem to be doing it all the time.
Thanks to our sponsors and advertisers who helped us financially provide such a venue for the high schools students to compete in such a highly regarded tournament.
A job well done, and looking forward for the next one.
