News of the Year

We had a great and active year. It started with the re-election of lion Tom brown as president, and what a ride it has been. The Baseball tournament was another success and in these tough economic days, we found the way to raise enough money for our various charities.

Last year we supported the fire victims in our area, Our Club And  the District donated 61 Target Gift cards of $ 100.00 each to the Anaheim Community Foundation.

In 2009 we planned to concentrate our pancake breakfast in the Anaheim area due to limited man power. Our eye glasses program and eye examination saw a good number of school children age get their much needed glasses. We provided eye examination and glasses for over 50 children. Dr Carlos Green helps with donating his time and services at a greatly reduced price. Dr. Carlos Green volunteers his time during the hearing and sight events that we hold in the area such as the Anaheim festival.

One of our most important achievements for this year is our association with Grandma's house of hope, we helped finding a new home for the group to house more of the abused and neglected families ( thanks to Bob Jones and Tom Brown), This alone added 28 beds to The shelter providing a safe haven for women in crisis. Jene't Kreitner made a presentation to our club and stirred a lot of emotions, this is really a tragedy when dealing with shattered lives and families, the shelter will be accepting human trafficking survivors and women with children, women with service animals and also victims of domestic violence who would not leave their abuser because of the paralyzing fear of leaving a beloved pet behind, there are plans to add a kennel as well.

Anaheim lions members were at hand to serve over 500 pancake breakfasts during the shelter second annual Christmas party for the children of the family housed in 2 motels. The club was instrumental in arranging for Dr Mokbel to donate dental services for 8 of the battered women staying at the house ( thanks to Ayuda: Dr Mokbel, Dr Done and USC dental students). Several women needed extensive work and have not seen a dentist for over 20 years. In the same day we donated services to another group, The value of these treatment was estimated to about $ 10,000.

Christmas Party: We know how to have a good time and fun as well, We had our Christmas Party and it was a blast, it was very well attended and we had aver 32 people, the gift exchange was really fun as the gifts were going from one person to another, our Moto Should be "Work hard and Play harder". Every year the club has been granting wishes to benefit persons with developmental disabilities in Orange County, this is project "Wish Tree" run by the Regional Center of Orange County, Lion Nina Erickson provided the members with the wish list of the individuals and our members generously, years after years participate in this Christmas Charity. All members of our club, should participate in this kind of outreach.

On the Main Front, our Regular meetings have been generally very well attended and as you can see we are having a lot of activities and enjoying the meetings.

Meetings are fun
